TWA January Monthly Meeting: What Belongs in Your Opening Pages

-

Our January meeting will feature a program by Heather Whitaker, TWA President, on ""Starting Your Story Off Right: What Belongs in Your Opening Pages." (See more)

The first half hour is an opportunity to socialize with fellow members of TWA and guests. The program begins at 6:30 pm. Heather is an Editor and Writing Coach whose presentations are always interesting and informative--You won't want to miss this one!

Your opening pages are the most important “real estate” in your manuscript. They are your first impression with agents, editors, and, most important, your readers. It’s not surprising they have the most work to do. In addition to introducing the world and main character(s) of your story, they must set the tone and hook the reader. In this interactive presentation, you’ll learn what does—and what doesn’t—belong in your opening pages. Feel free to bring your own 15 pages to review or use a book as we identify these crucial elements.

The Tallahassee Writers Association meets monthly at the Marzuq Shrine Temple at the corner of North Monroe and Tharpe Streets. Meetings are free and open to the public on the second Thursday of each month.

We are currently meeting in person, but we also have the livestream option for those who prefer to attend virtually. For added security, the Zoom meeting link is only sent to members and not available to the general public. Join the Tallahassee Writers Association at https://twaonline.org/membership/purchase. If you are a member, be sure to email [email protected] for the Zoom link! Guests are also welcome to email us for the link.
